This is a sensual and feminine necklet made with a beautiful 7.5 - 8mm (about 0.3") bead of unusually clear, beautiful Rainbow Moonstone, cradled in a flowing Celtic-inspired sterling silver design and mounted on a fine 16" sterling silver chain with a silver clasp.

I only recently obtained these wonderful beads from a German gemstone supplier and I was so excited to see them at an affordable price as they are beautifully clear, whereas most rainbow moonstone is translucent at best. Looking much like a piece of slightly misty rock crystal (clear quartz), when the light catches the piece, it suddenly reveals its gorgeous "schiller" (the internal metallic blue light flashes that are typical of this lovely and intriguing gemstone).

The colours seem to appear out of nowhere, almost like ghosts within the stone! There is one main zone of blue light and a smaller, somewhat less bright one on the opposite side of the bead: since the stone can be turned in its setting, the wearer can choose which view of several lovely views she prefers. The subtle colours in Rainbow Moonstone of this clarity are very difficult to photograph realistically and, although you can be assured that the blue schiller will be visible, compared with the main photo, the colour may be more or less obvious depending on the light conditions.

The overall effect of the necklet is one of simplicity, purity and serenity, enlivened by the "life" within the stone

Please bear in mind that the main photo is a closeup, intended to give a good clear view of the gemstone I have used and the quality of the workmanship.

It is not a lifesize representation.

This enchanting little necklet is particularly suited for wearing at neck length or on the upper chest, either alone or with other jewellery. For those wishing to make a discreet statement, its quality and the unusual gemstone make it ideal for wearing on its own.

However, those who prefer to wear more jewellery will find that it beautifully complements other pieces worn on longer chains as it sits clear of them and so should not get tangled up. I usually have other handcrafted jewellery for auction ... please click this link to see an illustrated listing of what is currently available

The Moonstone has been associated with the moon since time immemorial and it is sacred to all Lunar goddesses. It was the stone of the Roman Goddess Diana and the ancient Greeks called it Aphroselene after the goddesses Aphrodite (love) and Selene (moon). The early Romans believed Moonstone was captured moonlight and in the Orient, that they were actual rays of moonlight that had solidified ... the shimmering light held within the stone was a good spirit that lived there. People in ancient India also thought along these lines, and the stone is still considered sacred there today and regarded as a lucky gem if given to a bride by her groom. Moonstone is the Modern and the Mystical Birthstone for June as well as being used historically as an alternative to Amethyst as a February Birthstone. It is the Birthstone and Planetary Stone for Cancer (Jun 21 - Jul 22) and the Celtic Birthstone for Saille (Willow) (Apr 15 - May 12) as well as being associated with the Spring Equinox in Wiccan lore and being a Goddess Stone of Aphrodite (Venus): Goddess of Love and Beauty

In crystal lore, Moonstone has always been considered a "feminine" or "Goddess" stone and is thought of as a "feeling" stone rather than one for intellect. It is said to enhance the intuition and bring flashes of insight based on emotional understanding. Believed to be a wonderful balancing stone that helps deal with the changing cycles of our lives, bringing balance to our emotions, allowing us to release tensions and filling us with a feeling of calm reflection. Moonstone is considered protective of women and nature, and has been used to enhance psychic abilities and develop clairvoyance. This is a genuine individually handcrafted piece, made in a small artesan workshop in England. It is NOT mass-produced in a sweatshop like so much of the jewellery in online auctions and in the stores ... so at this price it is a real bargain!
