This is a beautiful antique burr walnut work / jewellery box with a diamond shaped insert of mother of pearl and abalone on the top and around the key hole.

It comes with a lock and key.

The inside of the box is in original condition and comes with some little extras to show provenance.

The inside of the lid has a quilted & padded purple silk lining.

There is a removable tray in the top of the box that has various compartments; some are lined in purple silk and some in silver paper. The central section has compartments with silk covered lids, the ones on each side have small mother of pearl handles and the central one has a looped section for storing a pencil or the like.

Also included in the box is a miniature edition of Loves labours lost by William Shakespeare. It was printed in 1905 and dedicated by special permission to Miss Ellen Terry.

It has a purple leather bound cover to match the box and the leaves have gold edges. Also found in the box is a memorial to  Lieutenant Davis who was killed in aerial combat on 6th Feb 1917. As a romantic I would like to think that this man gave the box to Miss Terry and had the book printed for her but I have no proof. I only know that these two items belong with the box.

 This is an antique and will have some marks commensurate with age and use but it is in beautiful solid condition.
